Ex-wife of Scots CEO with links to actor Russell Crowe accused of embezzling more than £47k

The ex-wife of the CEO of a Scottish clan trust with links to actor Russell Crowe is to face trial next year (2022), charged with embezzling more than £47,000 while working for the organisation.

Malin Heen-Allan is said to have embezzled a total of £47,526.94 while an employee of The Clanranald Trust for Scotland, a registered charity based at Kilmahog, near Callander, Perthshire.

The Trust, established in 1996, runs the Duncarron medieval village, in the Carron Valley, near Denny, Stirlingshire, a reconstruction of a typical residence of an ancient Scottish Clan Chief.

Heen-Allan, former wife of the Trust's chief executive, the Scottish actor and musician Charlie Allan, is said to have committed the embezzlement at the Trust's registered office at "Greenshadows", Kilmahog; at her home, Milton Farmhouse West, Callander; and elsewhere; between January 4th 2016 and August 23rd 2018.

At Stirling Sheriff Court today, Heen-Allan, 47, tendered a plea of not guilty, through her solicitor, to the single charge.

The court heard her trial was likely to last four weeks.

Defence solicitor Simon Hutchison said the case involved "thousands of pages of documents".

Sheriff Keith O'Mahony ordered Heen-Allan to appear at a procedural hearing on January 26th (2022), at which point a trial date may be set.

The Clanranald Trust for Scotland's object, as registered with the Scottish Charity Regulator, is "advancement of the education of the public of Scotland, in relation to the history and culture of The Clanranald Mcdonalds particularly, and to Scots Clan History and culture generally".

Among the exhibits at the Duncarron medieval village is a battering ram from the 2010 film Robin Hood with Crowe in the title role, which the Oscar-winning actor donated to the project.
