Ex-Wheaton College student guilty of taping women in bathroom with 'spy cam'

April 29--A former Wheaton College student entered a guilty plea Friday to charges that he used a "spy camera" that looked like a watch to secretly videotape three female students in the bathroom of their college-owned apartment.

Alexander Lim, 25, admitted guilt to six counts of unauthorized video recording in a blind plea with DuPage County prosecutors. Judge John Kinsella set a June 30 sentence date for Lim, who could face up to five years in prison, though lesser jail sentences or probation are options.

Lim was friends with the women, who were fellow students at the school. He would come to their apartment and then set up the watch camera in the bathroom to record video of the woman disrobing or showering, Assistant State's Attorney Enza LaMonica told the judge. Prosecutors referred to the device as a "spyview camera watch."

One of the women discovered the camera in late February 2015 and contacted police, who arrested Lim. He admitted the surreptitious video recording and said he had been doing it since the previous October, LaMonica said. He posted some of the video online, the prosecutor said.

According to court documents, Lim is a citizen of Singapore who served in that country's military. After his arrest he was released on bond and turned in his passport to authorities.

Since his expulsion from Wheaton College last year, Lim has lived with family friends in Tennessee and now with relatives in Connecticut, according to court files.

He completed a program for people with obsessive behavior and attended meetings of the group Sex Addicts Anonymous, his attorney said in court filings.
