Las Vegas-based Station Casinos, owned by the Fertitta brothers of UFC fame, is donating $1 million to Nevada’s emergency response fund to help combat the coronavirus.
The company announced the move Monday, according to TV station KSNV.
“In this time of profound crisis, nothing is more important to us than the health and well being of our team members, guests and the entire Las Vegas community,” Station Casinos president Richard Haskins said in a statement.
“To that end, we are honored to provide this contribution to assist those serving on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19, and are deeply grateful for their tireless efforts to serve and protect all Nevadans in these unprecedented and difficult times.”
Station Casinos CEO Frank Fertitta and vice-chairman Lorenzo Fertitta also will forego their salaries during the coronavirus pandemic. As of Monday afternoon, Nevada accounted for nearly 2,000 of the 356,000 known COVID-19 cases in the U.S.
The Fertitta brothers bought the UFC in 2001 for $2 million. In July 2016, they sold the world’s leading MMA promotion to Endeavor (then WME-IMG) for $4 billion.
