Ex-Trump campaign manager Lewandowski says 'womp, womp' after he's told story of Down syndrome child ripped from immigrant mother

Corey Lewandowski doesn't have much sympathy for children with Down syndrome.

"Womp, womp," the onetime Trump campaign manager said during an appearance on Fox News Tuesday after Democratic strategist Zac Petkanas recounted a tragic anecdote about a Down syndrome girl who was recently separated from her immigrant mother because of the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy.

"Did you just say 'womp, womp' to a 10-year-old with Down syndrome being taken from her mother?" an incredulous Petkanas said.

A shouting match ensued, in which Petkanas repeatedly asked Lewandoski, "how dare you?"

"We have infants that are taken from their mothers, we have infants that are being stolen from their mothers and put into cages and you go 'womp, womp?" Petkanas said. "How dare you, sir? How dare you?"

More than 2,300 children have been separated from their undocumented parents at the country's southern border since Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced zero tolerance on illegal border crossings in April, according to Homeland Security statistics.

Shocking photos and audio recordings have surfaced in recent weeks of immigrant kids kept in cages and crying for their parents. The family-shattering practice has prompted widespread outrage, with the United Nation's top human rights official accusing the Trump administration of systemic child abuse.

Despite bipartisan backlash at home, President Trump has indicated he has no plans to end the hawkish policy. He has falsely blamed Democrats for the brutal practice, even though he has the executive power to end it with a simple phone call.
