Former Tottenham Hotspur star Darren Bent has come to the defence of Mauricio Pochettino following a poor start to the season.
Pochettino was adamant this past summer that Spurs needed more reinforcements than they ended up with, something which left the Argentinian insisting his role was more of a coaching position rather than an overall head honcho responsible for transfers.
The lack of progression in terms of incoming players has also had a knock-on impact on some of the bigger names in the dressing room, who have become eager to leave for pastures new.
Christian Eriksen is the perfect example of the player uncertainty at the club, with there being no guarantees that the Denmark international will still be in the mix at Spurs after the January transfer window amid Real Madrid links.
But the buck ultimately always stops with the manager and the pressure is building on Pochettino following a start to the campaign which has seen Tottenham only claim 12 points from their opening nine Premier League matches.
The Champions League runners-up from last term have also been embarrassed in a 7-2 loss at home to Bayern Munich, though the 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday evening has offered a European boost.
And Bent, for one, believes that Pochettino can still be the man to lead Spurs out of the darkness.
"I think he (Pochettino) is the man and he knows that. That’s why he’s not really panicking because he’s been touted as one of the best managers about at the minute," Bent, who was speaking on behalf of GentingBet, told football.london.
"Spurs can’t really afford to lose him, because if they do lose him he’s going to get a job within the next couple of days."
Bent feels that Tottenham should keep the faith with Pochettino but should the club part ways with the former Southampton boss, he knows the man for the job.
"If he was to leave, you’d have to say (Massimiliano) Allegri because he’s the only one who is available," Bent added.
"There is (Jose) Mourinho but will he fit the way Spurs play and the budget? I don’t think so. But Allegri - he’d probably be the only one who would be out there because he’s available right now.”
