Ex-Tottenham striker Gary Lineker gives admission over shocking Christian Eriksen incident

Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker has admitted that he thought Christian Eriksen was 'lost' after collapsing mid-game at Euro 2020.

The ex-Spurs midfielder was in the midst of Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 group match against Finland in Copenhagen when the incident happened.

He fell to the floor just minutes before half-time before receiving CPR on the pitch. Fortunately, Eriksen was eventually revived and is continuing his recovery in hospital.

Lineker feared the worst at the time though as he watched the incident unfold as the host of the game during the BBC’s coverage.

Speaking to The Times, the 60-year-old said: "Our reaction was the same as anyone at home. Shock, and it felt quite traumatic.

“I honestly suspected at one point we had lost him because they were suddenly putting screens up. 'Oh my goodness'."

In the time since the incident at the Parken Stadium, Eriksen has continued undergoing tests in hospital to determine exactly why he collapsed.

The 29-year-old Inter Milan man released an update on his condition on Tuesday morning.

In a statement released on social media, he wrote: “Hello everyone. Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world. It means a lot to me and my family.

“I’m fine - under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay. Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches. Play for all of Denmark.”

The nation fell to defeat in their opening game, Joel Pohjanpalo netting the only goal, and are now set to face Belgium and then Russia.
