Ex-Tottenham star makes Harry Kane claim with Erling Haaland snub before Arsenal clash

Tottenham star Harry Kane has been backed as the best striker in the Premier League ahead of his side's clash with Arsenal in the North London Derby. The England captain is eyeing another famous performance against the old rivals, sitting one goal behind Jimmy Greaves as the club's all-time top goalscorer.

Kane is having a quietly impressive season so far, scoring 15 goals in 19 appearances in the league so far, though that has been overshadowed by the ridiculous numbers put up by Erling Haaland at Manchester City. Spurs boss Antonio Conte outlined just how important the forward is to his side ahead of the clash on Sunday.

The Italian told reporters: "You know very well much better than me the importance of Harry for us, for Tottenham but also for the national team because with the club and national team he has great numbers. We are talking about a world class striker and for sure he is going to beat every record.

"I think he deserves this but I want to always underline the other aspect, the human aspect of Harry. We are not only talking about a world class striker but also a really good man, a really good person and for us he is an important point of reference. I am sure that he is going to beat this record and he is doing something incredible. At the same time we try to help him and if he scores, he helps us! This is important to have this exchange of favours."

In the build-up to the game, former Tottenham player Jamie Redknapp stated that Kane is the best in the league, snubbing Haaland from that honour. He told Sky Sports: "Of course he would love to [break Greaves' record], but I just think he wants to score goals full stop.

"It’s inevitable that it’s going to happen, and 15 Premier League goals in a Tottenham team that don’t really create much is phenomenal this season. Everyone talks about Haaland this season, 21 goals, but he’s got Kevin De Bruyne putting them on a plate for him. Harry Kane scores goals from outside the box, headers, tap-ins, the lot - he is the most complete striker, and still the best in the Premier League for me."
