Ex-Tottenham star Dele Alli 'banished from Besiktas squad' as Everton loan spell turns sour

Former Tottenham star Dele Alli has been banished from the Besiktas first-team squad by manager Şenol Güneş for the remainder of the season. That's according to Turkish outlet Takvim, which claims that the decision has been made that will see the Englishman watch on from the stands instead of on the pitch.

It epitomises Alli's struggles in recent campaigns, where he has failed to hit the heights that he set earlier in his career. It's only just over one-year ago that the 26-year-old left Spurs to join fellow Premier League side Everton under Frank Lampard, bringing an end to his seven-year stay in north London.

The midfielder was a fan favourite after making the switch from MK Dons, but an inability to recapture his best form meant an exit was best for all parties. His time with the Toffees hasn't gone to plan though, making just 13 appearances for the club before they decided to let him leave on loan.

Turkish side Besiktas was seen as the ideal destination to kickstart his career once again, but after just 15 appearances, it appears as though that avenue is potentially over. With manager Gunes deciding to banish Alli from the squad for the rest of the season, a return to Everton in the summer is on the cards.

“Alli did not add the efficiency we thought of as a game. We work physically and tactically," the head coach said in a brutal interview on the midfielder in February. “Alli played in two friendly matches. He did positive things. He runs a lot, but he has problems in assisting and scoring goals.

“He also ran today, but he did not contribute. He is a player with a high probability of leaving at the end of the year, whether he plays well or badly.”
