Ex-Tottenham star Christian Eriksen sends message to fans amid potential return hint

Former Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen has issued a heartfelt thanks to supporters for their ‘extraordinary’ support after his cardiac arrest last summer.

The Danish midfielder collapsed during his nation’s Euro 2020 showdown with Finland.

He received life-saving CPR on the pitch but has thankfully made a full recovery.

The incident though was shocking to witness, with players, clubs and supporters rallying around the now 29-year-old, actions that he has been left feeling humbled by.

Talking in an interview with 1DR, he said: “It was amazing that so many people felt a need to write or send flowers.

“It had an impact on so many people - and they felt the need to let me and my family know. That makes me very happy.

“At the hospital, they kept saying I’d received more and more flowers. It was weird because I didn’t expect people to send flowers - because I’d died for five minutes.”

He continued: “It was quite extraordinary, but it was very nice of everyone - and it’s been a big help to me to receive all those best wishes. And people still write to me.

“I’ve thanked people I’ve met in person. I’ve thanked the doctors, my team mates and their families in person. But all the fans who’ve sent thousands of letters and emails and flowers - or who’ve come up to meet me on the street both in Italy and Denmark - I thank them all for the support I got from all over the world that helped me through this.”

Since the incident, Eriksen has left former employers Inter Milan and is now on the lookout for fresh employment within the game.

His representative Martin Schoots has hinted that the Dane will return to training later this month but refused to comment on Eriksen ’s destination.

Talking with Mail Online, he said: “It is going really well for Christian.

“He had all the checks just before Christmas and the results were so good that we expect him to be involved in a group training with a team some time later in January.

“But I would prefer Christian to talk about this himself and he will do so very soon.”

Eriksen made 305 appearances for Spurs before departing for Inter Milan - where he played a part in the Italians ending their decade-long wait for a Serie A title.
