Ex-Tory council leader charged over 'electoral fraud'

THE Conservative former leader of East Dunbartonshire council has been charged with alleged electoral offences, police have confirmed.

Andrew Polson co-led the council with LibDem councillor Vaughan Moody from 2018 to 2022, taking over after an SNP minority administration collapsed in 2012.

Police Scotland have confirmed he and his wife Aileen Polson were arrested and charged with offences under the Representation of the People Act 1983 earlier this month.

The alleged offences relate to Polson allegedly pretending to live in the East Dunbartonshire council area when it’s claimed he really lived in the neighbouring city of Glasgow, reports The Sunday Times.

They are due to appear at a later date which is yet to be confirmed, police added.

A spokesperson for the force said: “A 50-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the Representation of The People Act 1983 on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

“They are due to appear in court at a later date.”
