Ex-Titan Zach Mettenberger nearly leads Memphis Express to comeback victory in Week 3

Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger finally got his opportunity to make his AAF debut on Sunday night as the Memphis Express took on the Orlando Apollos in Week 3 action.

Starter Christian Hackenberg was pulled from action after being allowed to finish a first half that included two interceptions. After Mike Singletary turned the reins over to Mettenberger, the Express had its first touchdown pass in three games this season.

Mettenberger pieced together what looked like a promising comeback rally, with his third pass attempt of the evening being a 30-yard scoring reception by Devin Lucien.

Then in the fourth quarter, Mettenberger delivered a strike to Gerrard Sheppard, complete with a 2-point conversion to Anthony Manzo-Lewis. At that point, the Apollos’ lead was cut to just 21-17.

Orlando wisely managed the clock on its last drive, and was able to hold off the Express, despite Mettenberger’s efforts.

Mettenberger looked much-improved as a passer in comparison to his time with the Titans, appearing much more accurate under center for the Express.

The former LSU standout finished the contest 9-of-12 passes for 120 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions.
