Ex-Thomas Cook employee is helping old colleagues find work

A former Thomas Cook employee is going the extra mile to help his colleagues find a new job.

Gareth Simpson was employed by the company for several years in the early 2000s and held a variety of positions in the travel firm before it collapsed .

He left years before the collapse to work in the recruitment industry but kept in touch with his old colleagues, who he describes as "family".

After the company ceased trading last month, Mr Simpson immediately bought the domain name  jobs4thomascook.com  to help his old workmates, Manchester Evening News reports.

The site has since attracted more than 200 employers who are advertising around 650 jobs.

Gareth said: "It's to get people I worked with for years back into work.

"When that news came out, it was crazy. Most of my friends still work for Thomas Cook.

"It's hard to explain when you don't work in travel, but when you are working away from home for so long, for months of the year, you do become like a family.

"It's just about getting people back into work and supporting them."

The success of the website has even led Gareth to organise a jobs fair for ex-Thomas Cook staff, which will be held in Salford later this month.

Gareth's site can be found at jobs4thomascook.com.
