Alleged abusive ex-teacher on new charges

An ex-PE teacher and Salvation Army youth pastor is facing child sex and perverting justice charges. (AAP)

A former PE teacher and Salvation Army youth pastor who allegedly abused students at a Melbourne college, has been charged with pressuring an alleged victim in the case against him.

Steven Mellody has previously been accused of at least 59 separate sex offences, including four counts of rape, against two young students at a strict Christian college in Wantirna South.

He appeared via videolink in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday charged with two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

It's alleged he attempted to get a third party to coerce an alleged victim to withdraw or change their police statement to benefit his case.

Mellody's defence lawyer said he would apply for bail on August 20.
