Ex-Swansea City and Birmingham City star David Cotterill opens up on extent of his battle with alcohol in emotional social media post

Former Wales international David Cotterill has revealed that his ongoing recovery from his battle with alcohol saw him miss his daughter's first birthday.

Cotterill, who played a key role in helping Wales reach Euro 2016, opened up on his mental health in an interview last year , revealing he used to drink "two or three" bottles of wine a night during his career.

The 31-year old, who was capped 24 times by his country, has since encouraged others to speak openly about issues surrounding mental health, and took to Instagram on Wednesday to open up on his recent spell in rehab, which he says caused him to miss his daughter's first birthday.

However, he remains positive about his recovery, and has once again encouraged those with similar problems to seek help.
