Ex-Sunderland loanee Amad could be in line for a new Manchester United contract

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to offer Amad a new contract in the wake of his successful loan spell at Sunderland. The Ivory Coast international enjoyed a fine season on loan with the Wearsiders, playing a starring role as the Black Cats reached the Championship play-offs in their first season back in the second tier.

He made 42 appearances in all competitions and ended the campaign as Sunderland's top scorer with 14 goals, becoming a fan-favourite in the process, and he issued an emotional goodbye message to supporters in the aftermath of Tuesday night's play-off semi-final defeat at Luton Town. The 20-year-old has now returned to Old Trafford where boss Erik ten Hag has indicated that he will be involved in the Red Devils' pre-season plans so that he can see him at close quarters.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano says Manchester United are also keen to extend the contracts of Amad and Uruguayan youngster Facundo Pellistri as they are seen as having big futures with the club. “Amad Diallo's biggest dream is to get a chance in Man United's first team,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

"The idea of Erik ten Hag is to test Diallo in the pre-season tour after a successful loan spell at Sunderland. United will have discussions with Diallo's representatives in the coming months over a new deal.

"They want to guarantee both players a long-term contract and be a part of the Man United project."

Amad joined Manchester United from Italian Serie A side Atalanta in January 2021 for a fee that could rise to £35m, but he has made just nine appearances for the Red Devils so far.
