Ex-Sunderland loan star Amad ready for Manchester United audition in front of Erik ten Hag

Former Sunderland loanee Amad could be handed an opportunity to impress Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag after being named in the squad for the Red Devils' first friendly of the summer. The Ivory Coast international was a huge hit during his season-long loan on Wearside, in which he scored 14 goals and notched four assists as helped the club finish sixth and reach the play-off semi-finals in its first season back in the Championship.

The Black Cats would have loved to have brought him back to the club for the coming season but it now seems highly unlikely that that will happen, with sporting director Kristjaan Speakman effectively ruling out the possibility. Instead, ten Hag is keen to see Amad at first hand in pre-season with a view to either involving him in his Premier League campaign next term or alternatively loaning him out to a top-flight side either in England or in one of the other major European leagues.

Man United take on Leeds United in a friendly in Norway at Osolo's Ullevaal Stadion tomorrow and Amad has been included in the squad, and he is then expected to travel with to Edinburgh for a friendly against French side Lyon, and on to the USA for the next leg of their summer preparations as they take on Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund.

Leeds have also been credited with an interest in taking the 19-year-old on loan but, having been relegated last season, they are in a similar situation to Sunderland because they are unable to offer the top-flight football that the Red Devils are seeking in order to test Amad given that he proved himself at Championship level last term.
