The Steelers are getting a little thin at tight end, but don't get any bright ideas about Heath Miller coming out or retirement.
Asked if he had an itch to return to the game as late summer and training camp approaches, Miller responded: "None whatsoever."
Miller is enjoying retirement and his free time with his family. His boys were with him Thursday when he served as a camp counselor at a Steelers youth camp at West Allegheny (Pa.) High School.
During an afternoon break, Miller posed for pictures with campers in between eating lunch and applying sun screen to his own kids.
"It's been good," Miller said of retirement. "It's been different but good."
Miller, who played 11 seasons for the Steelers, said he knew after the season ended that he didn't have another season in him. He announced his retirement in February.
"After the season, I knew," Miller said. "I said for a long time I took every year one at a time and put all my focus into that. Then we'd figure it out at the time."
The Steelers signed Ladarius Green to be their new starting tight end in March.
"I haven't met him and I haven't watched too much film on him," Miller said. "But I'm sure he'll be great. They brought him here for a reason, and I wish him the best."
As for his plans for the fall and beyond?
"We're going to move back to Virginia, but outside of that I don't know," he said. "I'm taking it one day at a time and certainly don't want to rush into anything."
