Ex-Spurs striker's message for Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura after failed deadline day moves

Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura must shift their focus back on Tottenham Hotspur following speculation about their futures this week.

This is the view of former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov.

With the transfer window for European clubs not closing until Monday September 2, 2019, Eriksen's start to the season had been clouded by talk of a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Meanwhile, there were shock reports of the reigning La Liga champions being interested in Lucas.

As things panned out neither player departed the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on European deadline day much to the relief of Mauricio Pochettino.

And Berbatov is hoping the Spurs duo won't be distracted by transfer talk.

"Mauricio Pochettino will be relieved that the transfer window is closed across Europe," Berbatov told Betfair. "Now the Tottenham manager knows which players he has to work with.

"Without having insider knowledge, it's difficult to know what happened with Christian Eriksen this summer. If a team wanted him and Spurs stopped him from leaving then it's possible the player will harbour regrets which could mean he's still distracted.

"But if nobody came in for Eriksen then he should be fine and can now concentrate on playing for Spurs.

"I expect Eriksen to get his head down and perform for Spurs now.

"His goal in the north London derby last weekend showed that's what he plans to do.

Mauricio Pochettino makes FIFA The Best shortlist

"The press are reporting that Spurs turned down a late bid for Lucas Moura from Barcelona. That's a surprised to me and a compliment to Moura who's emerged as another strong attacking option for Spurs in the past six months.

"I can't see where he would have fit into a Barcelona front line that already has Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.

"Moura is a better off staying at Spurs and helping them challenge on all fronts this season."
