Ex-RTE presenter Eoghan McDermott gets back his old gig on Love Island Australia after being falsely accused of sexual misconduct

Former RTE star Eoghan McDermott is set to return to our screens as he gears up to narrate Love Island Australia.

The radio presenter did the voiceovers for the show’s first two seasons, before Cork comedian Stephen Mullan took over the role.

He disappeared from the reality show in 2021 after being wrongly accused of sexual misconduct.

Season 4 of Love Island Australia is just weeks away, and will premiere on 9Now in Oz from October 31, and will be film at the villa in Mallorca in Spain.

Sophie Monk, will return as host to steer the new cast of sexy singles towards finding their perfect match, all while soaking up the Mediterranean sun.

"I'm so excited to be returning as host of Love Island Australia and with overseas holidays finally coming back into view, I can't wait to return to beautiful Mallorca to see what's in store for our brand-new Islanders," Sophie said.

And while Eoghan isn’t mentioned on the Love Island Australia website, a spokesman for the show confirmed the news.

“Eoghan will be narrating this year's upcoming season of Love Island Australia,” they told Independent.ie.

We have contacted Eoghan for comment but have yet to receive a response.

Eoghan’s previous departure from the Australian show followed him stepping back from his popular RTE 2FM breakfast show with Doireann Garrihy.

In March 2022, he spoke about “false allegations” made against him by a woman online who accused him of sexual misconduct.

He said in a statement: “Despite not being investigated or verified, these allegations were spread widely, the effects of which I am still processing.

“At the request of and with consideration for the other party to this dispute, I will not be commenting any further on this matter.”

“Those remarks arose out of a relationship they had in or around October 2010.”

He attached a letter from the woman’s solicitor Mary Cowhey Solicitors which was sent to his own legal representative Paul Tweed.

It read: “Our client accepts there were a number of serious falsehoods contained in her publications, which may have caused distress to your client and those closest to him.”

“Our client sincerely regrets publishing the inaccuracies contained in those publications and acknowledges that they have had a harmful effect on your client and those close to him.

“These inaccuracies were the product of the elapse of time since 2010 and the published tweets.

“They also stemmed out of an unreasonable reliance placed on false information from third parties.”

It stated that the woman acknowledges that she was the age of consent at the time of her relationship with Eoghan McDermott.

“She acknowledges the severity of this false claim and retracts it unequivocally. Our client also accepts, without reservation, that she falsely claimed that your client had fled the country on account of these claims,” it continued.
