Ex RTE host Keith Walsh opens up about feeling 'rejected' after morning show was axed

Former RTE breakfast host Keith Walsh said he took it “personally” when the station axed the morning show.

Radio bosses binned 2FM Breakfast Republic with Keith, Bernard O’Shea and Jennifer Zamparelli in 2019.

But Keith has broken his silence in the aftermath of the shake-up — saying he felt rejected when he felt RTE didn’t want him anymore.

“I felt a huge amount of rejection because I felt like.. well I took it personally,” he said.

“I thought, ‘Well OK they don’t want me, RTE don’t want me, they’re done with me, I’m on the scrapheap. So I took that very personally.

“It was the rejection really that hit me hard and that was the thing I had to deal with.”

Keith sought therapy to help him cope after leaving RTE, saying speaking to a professional helped him deal with his anger.

He told Keith Russell on The Endless Spiral podcast: “It was one of the best decisions I ever made because it set me off into the next two years.”
