Glasgow-based Smart Metering Systems has appointed Ruth Leak as non-executive director.
Leak, 50, is an information technology specialist who previously held several senior positions at Royal Mail over a 10-year period including CIO of letters and network, technology director Royal Mail Parcels and head of strategic projects.
Prior to Royal Mail, she worked for a number of organisations in technology, consulting and operational roles including Kurt Salmon, Ocado, Debenhams, Coopers and Lybrand, and Proctor and Gamble.
Leak will take over the chair of the information technology committee of the board, with a remit to review and provide strategic guidance on the continuing development of the SMS's technology programmes.
Willie MacDiarmid, chairman, said: "Ruth brings considerable information technology and commercial experience and expertise. She will be a valuable addition to the board, providing support and oversight over the technology aspects of our business - a key focus for us."
