Ex-Rochdale striker's view shows calibre of transfer signing Aaron Morley is to Bolton Wanderers

New Bolton Wanderers signing Aaron Morley will be a 'big miss' for old club Rochdale who will have to do without his all-round game both in defence and attack going forwards.

That's the view of former Dale striker Calvin Andrew.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined Wanderers last week from the League Two side on a three-and-a-half year deal.

He then went on to make his Bolton debut in the 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town over the weekend, impressing in the middle of the park.

Wanderers took the lead after the break when Kieran Lee struck to slot home following Morley's shot being saved by Christian Walton, before Dapo Afolayan took advantage of George Edmundson's error to put the game beyond doubt.

Rochdale have lost a couple of players recently in the transfer window, with striker Jake Beesley also moving on to join Championship side Blackpool.

Andrew believes that the Dale, who are currently 18th in League Two, will be okay with the departure of Beesley but admits that Morley is a 'big miss' with his qualities in the middle of the park which have now headed to Wanderers.

But Andrew also believes that the departures open the door for others to come in and stake their claim for a starting place.

Speaking as a pundit on BBC's Squad Goals raido show, Andrew said: "Beesley, having watched him a few times this season, they could probably be okay without him, but Aaron Morley's a big miss, definitely a big miss.

"He makes their midfield tick attacking-wise and defensively and obviously is a good young talent, but as there is any team, as soon as some guys go out, there's an opportunity for someone else to step in and do a job.

"I'm not too worried knowing three or four of the guys that are still there, who are real leaders in the dressing room and good players, the likes of Jimmy Keohane and Stephen Dooley, so I'm sure they will find their form again."
