Ex-Robin and Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior has his say on play-off contenders - including Aston Villa, West Brom and Bristol City

A Bristol City youth product has had his say on the Robin's play-off hopes.

The Robins take on West Brom tonight with the sides currently occupying two of the four sought-after spots that still offer the hope of promotion at Wembley in May.

Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior has given his verdict on City's chances of staying there with seven games still to play for his former side.

The 34-year-old former full-back started his career at Bristol City before spells at Fulham, Reading, Hull and finally Brighton.

Following his retirement last summer he took a punditry role with Sky Sports and an U23 coaching job at Brighton in the Premier League.

Speaking to Football League World at the 2018 EFL Awards in London, Rosenior praised Lee Johnson and backed the Robins to make the top six.

“Right now I think it’ll be Leeds, West Brom, Bristol City I think will get in," he said.

"Lee Johnson has done a fantastic job, and then it’ll be Aston Villa.”

Championship promotion betting odds

The pundit believes Sheffield United or Leeds won't necessarily be favourites in the play-offs, depending on who misses out on an automatic promotion place.

He added: “It’s a lottery, I think it’s the team with momentum, whichever team from Leeds or Sheffield United that miss out will find it very hard to dust themselves off and go again, so Aston Villa for me, they’re in the driving seat.”

Rosenior's positive comments will be music to the ears of Bristol City fans, with the Robins facing seven cup finals to ensure a play-off place.

Bristol City take on West Brom tonight at 7.45pm. You can follow live updates from the match on the Bristol Live website and on Sky Sports Football from 7pm.
