Former referee Peter Walton has insisted that VAR was right not to overrule Tottenham's penalty against Leeds United.
The Whites slumped to a 3-0 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Harry Kane opening the scoring from the spot before goals from Heung-Min Son and Toby Alderweireld either side of half-time.
The first goal was hotly debated by Leeds, as they felt Ezgjan Alioski's challenge on Steven Bergwijn was outside the area.
On review, VAR deemed that there was contact on the line of the penalty area, which constitutes a foul inside the box.
Kane dispatched the resulting spot-kick, before turning provider for Son to double the advantage just before the break.
On the penalty decision, Walton claimed that VAR reached the correct decision.
“The VAR is looking at the factual element of this, not whether it’s a foul or not," Walton told BT Sport.
"If there’s contact on the line, or part of it, the line is deemed to be part of the penalty area and therefore the foul would’ve happened in the area. It’s a thigh on thigh - not the foot - a thigh on a thigh, and that can be clearly seen behind the goal.
"If you look at it from other angles, you can make out that it’s happened on the line, and as I said, the line is part of the penalty area.”
Toby Alderweireld then headed home a third for Tottenham after half time to put an end to the contest and end Spurs' four-match winless run.
For Leeds, it all-but signalled a second defeat in five matches and the end of their two-game clean sheet run.
