Ex-Real Madrid chief gives verdict on transfer plans in boost for Man Utd and Liverpool

Former Real Madrid chief Ramon Calderon has given the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool a big boost in the transfer window.

It comes after he revealed the latest on the financial situation at the Bernabeu.

Both Premier League clubs have several targets on their shortlist, with the likes of Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane all linked.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to sign a striker and Borussia Dortmund hotshot Haaland is top of the list.

Real Madrid are also heavily interested with Zinedine Zidane a massive fan of the Norwegian, who will have the pick of clubs in the summer.

Los Blancos are in the market for a winger as well and Mohamed Salah has caught the eye.

The Egyptian has long been on the radar at the Bernabeu, who have missed goals from wide positions after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, it appears Real will not be splashing the cash this summer as they have been hit hard by the Covid pandemic.

They are also sprucing up their stadium which is setting them back a fair bit.

And Calderon has explained how this will ultimately impact their transfer business when the summer window opens.

"There are always rumours at this time of the season," he said on TalkSport.

"They are talking about Mbappe, Haaland… too many players.

“We [Madrid] are not in the best form economically-speaking because we are refurbishing our stadium spending a lot of money.

"It will be difficult to spend money in the summer.

"We always try to sign good players, we’ve been doing that for years."

This would mean good news for the likes of United, who would see their chances of signing Haaland improve with Madrid out of the race.

And equally, Liverpool will be thanking their lucky stars as their prospects of keeping Salah for another season increase.

Kylian Mbappe remains the priority at Real Madrid, whose own situation is still unclear.

The Frenchman will see his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expire in June 2022 with the French club desperate to tie him down to a long-term deal.
