Ex-Rangers star looking to make move into coaching role after playing retirement

Former Rangers striker Alan Gow says he would love the chance to move into the dugout.

The former Falkirk and Airdrie favourite is now looking to make moves behind the scenes after ending his playing career at Queen’s Park last term.

The Spiders spell came as a favour to manager and former Diamond Mark Roberts while he was helping out at Hampden in a coaching capacity.

However, the six months in League Two brought the curtain down on his playing career which included spells at Rangers, Norwich, Blackpool, Exeter, Hibs and Motherwell.

The final years of his career have been plagued by injury, where he turned out for Bristol Rovers, St Mirren and Stirling.

While currently working at a football agency, he is eyeing up one day walking back through the doors at or at the Falkirk Stadium.

He told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “I was helping out at Queen’s Park with coaching last season, and Mark asked me to help out and play a few games.

“I was happy to do it, but I’ve had five operations on my ankle now so I don’t think I’ll be able to get back to the level I’m looking for.

“I’m working with an agency just now and doing my coaching badges. I’m looking at doing my A-licence now.

“I’ll see what happens but I’d like to do some coaching some day.

“No matter what it is I want to stay involved with football – maybe at some point I’ll be able to go back to Airdrie and Falkirk as a coach or a manager.

“I’ve got great memories of both clubs so it’s be good to go back one day.”
