Ex-Rangers star admits playing against Ibrox kids in East Kilbride win was 'weird'

Gregg Wylde says it was slightly bizarre to play youngsters of his former club - but it was a big three points all the same for East Kilbride against Rangers B.

The Ibrox youth team have been added to the Lowland League this term and currently sit second, but EK are three points behind them after moving into the top four with a 2-1 win over them.

Wylde started his career at Rangers and won an SPL title while at Ibrox. Still in connection with those at Rangers, he knows it’s a big victory for Kilby.

He added: “It was a little bit weird! Obviously I look back on the time I was an U18s player. Rangers have got a really good squad and I was speaking to a couple of the coaches before the game.

“They’re in the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League so they are a good side. I’ll be going along to watch them against Celtic [on December 28], that’s for sure. They took five off league leaders Bonnyrigg earlier in the season so we knew it would be a difficult challenge. We are delighted with the three points.”

Tony Weston put Rangers ahead but two great goals from Neil McLaughlin and particularly Chris Erskine secured an 11th Kilby win in 12 matches.

Erskine’s eventual winner was a thing of beauty, a lobbed effort from well over 25 yards out.

Wylde reckons that it’s a goal people would rave over if it was scored in England’s Premier League.

He explained: “I think if people saw that on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday, people would be talking about it. People like Roy Keane would be talking about it. But that’s Chris Erskine for you.

“He does that in training every week, pulling out magnificent goals.”
