Ex-Rangers manager seals quickfire return to dugout after Premier League exit

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has returned to Feyenoord as head coach on a two-year deal, with the option of a further year, the club have confirmed.

The former Rangers manager, who led the Ibrox side to the Europa League final in 2022, replaces Robin van Persie after the Dutchman was dismissed just 16 months into the role.

Van Bronckhorst, 51, had most recently been part of Arne Slot’s coaching staff at Liverpool, but left earlier this month following the Dutchman’s departure from Anfield.

He is no stranger to Feyenoord, having previously managed the club between 2015 and 2019, winning back-to-back KNVB Cups and guiding them to the Eredivisie title in 2017.

Reflecting on his return, van Bronckhorst said: “When you’ve been part of the club since you were seven years old... yes, Feyenoord is a big part of my life.”

His last managerial post came at Besiktas in 2024, where he won the Turkish Super Cup but was dismissed after five months following a poor run of results.

A product of Feyenoord’s academy, he spent five years in the first team from 1993 to 1998 before returning for a second spell between 2007 and 2010.
