Ex-Rangers man 'relieved' after surviving play-off error as Livingston promoted

Stephen Kelly helped secure Livingston a return to the Scottish Premiership last night.

The 25-year-old joined the West Lothian club on a permanent deal in 2022, departing Ibrox after coming through Rangers' academy.

In the first half, he made a key mistake that led to a second goal for Ross County, taking a heavy touch on the edge of the box that allowed Ronan Hale to nip in and finish.

County were 2-0 up on the night and 3-1 ahead on aggregate, although Livi pulled off mission impossible as strikes from Lewis Smith, ex-Rangers man Danny Wilson, Robbie Muirhead and Tete Yengi helped them seal a return to the top flight.

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Kelly was asked how he felt, especially following his early error: "Relieved," he said

"Obviously, I made a mistake, I just needed to get on with it. What a feeling, what a feeling, amazing for everybody at the club.

"The way I play, you're going to take the ball like that and you're going to lose it at times. But the quality we've got pulls us out of a hole.

"The manager made a big point of changing the way we approach games this year, and being more on the front foot.

"The momentum we've had the past couple of months, we felt we were going to come up and we've went and done it."

Robbie Fraser also contributed to Livi's top-flight return. On loan from Rangers, the young left-back played 90 minutes in last night's play-off. He returns to Ibrox this summer with a year left on his deal.
