Ex-Rangers kid who shone alongside Billy Gilmour tipped for 'higher level' return after non-league switch

Boss Ricky Waddell reckons new signings Jamie Walker could have chosen to play at a higher level after signing with Caledonian Braves.

Former Rangers youth coach Waddell coach the left-back alongside the likes of Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour during his time with the Glasgow giants.

The 19-year-old has made the move to the Lowland League which the Alliance Park gaffer reckons will kick-start his career.

"I know Jamie well," he told Lanarkshire Live Sport. "He was in the same group as Billy Gilmour who I had at Rangers at that particular point.

"That was a really good group who I felt like I had a built a good relationship with.

"He left Rangers to go to St Mirren full-time and he left there and needed a place to call home a bit.

"He came and had a trial. He enjoyed the atmosphere, and I don't doubt he could play at a higher level.

"But I spoke with him about the importance of playing regular first-team football.

"He decided if the offer was right he would come to ourselves and we managed to get that over the line.

"I like to think we have a good relationship. He was one of many lads in the game who is looking to find a place and I'm glad we could help him with that.

"It's a move that can help a young lad settle and get back to playing games which will be huge for his future."
