Airdrie boss Ian Murray admits it was best for all parties for Harris O'Connor to go on trial with English clubs.
The former Rangers defender spent time with the Diamonds during pre-season and he featured in their NL Cup final defeat to Clyde.
The 18-year-old is on trial with English Championship side Stoke City while Sunderland and Premier League outfit Watford are also interested.
Murray was effusive in praise for O’Connor’s professionalism and the 40-year-old hopes he succeeds in England.
He said: “We felt that it probably wasn’t the right thing for us and Harris had good options down south.
"He can go there and impress teams so there was no point in holding on to him and being unfair on him.
“He had an excellent attitude and everything else that you’d expect from a young player coming out of Rangers.
“We wish him well down in England and hopefully he can get a good offer.
“Anybody that comes out of Rangers will interest teams and he’s got the pedigree to suggest that he can do well. It was in the best interests of all parties for him to go on.”
The 40-year-old manager is still hopeful of adding a couple of new faces to his Airdrie squad before the transfer deadline.

Dylan Easton sustained an injury in Airdrie’s 1-1 draw with Annan Athletic and Murray expects to find out the extent of the injury in the coming days.
He said: “We had a depleted squad at the weekend due to different circumstances but a lot of clubs are the same because of the short turnaround.
“Players are picking up wee niggles and we lost Dylan at the weekend. We are a little bit light at the moment although we have a good squad but we will need to add a couple of players regardless.
“We will need to assess Dylan’s injury properly because he was in a lot of pain.”
