The Foreign Ministry has cancelled all passports held by Yingluck Shinawatra as part of police attempts to bring the former prime minister back to serve a jail term on the rice-pledging ruling.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Busadee Santipitaks on Monday confirmed the revocation of the Thai passports of the former prime minister.
Details of the decision were unveiled earlier by deputy National Police chief Srivara Ransibrahmanakul.
Pol Gen Srivara said the ministry voided four passports of the fleeing former prime minister on Wednesday. They included two diplomatic passports and two ordinary passports, he added.
The ministry's decision followed a request by police, who are trying to limit her travel and put pressure on her to come back to serve her time.
The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions sentenced her on Sept 27 to five years in jail for failing to stop fake and corrupt government-to-government rice sales under the scheme. The ruling was read in absentia as Yingluck had escaped the country before the judgment day.
Her whereabouts remain unconfirmed so far, although police have contacted Interpol to locate her.
Yingluck and state prosecutors have decided not to appeal the ruling after the deadline ended on Sunday. It effectively means the case was closed.
