Ex-Patriots OL predicts when Tom Brady will retire, whether Gronk will return

Former Patriots offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer weighed in on Tom Brady’s retirement plans and Rob Gronkowski’s potential return.

Since Gronkowski announced his retirement this offseason, the tight end has perpetuated a conversation about whether that retirement is genuine — or whether he’ll return to play at some point in 2019. That conversation has almost drowned out the fanfare surrounding Brady’s potential retirement, which the quarterback has put off until he’s at least 45 years old.

When will Brady hang up his cleats?

“To be honest: no idea,” Vollmer told Adrian Franke of Spox.com, as transcribed by Pats Pulpit. “He keeps saying that he will play until 45, but I wonder why. I’m giving him two more years — but not because he told me, I’m just going with my gut. Who knows?”

As for Gronk?

“I don’t think, he will come back again,” Vollmer said. “Just looking at his physical shape, I don’t think he’d be able to pull it off.”

Vollmer certaintly knows how quickly a body can change in retirement. The right tackle slimmed down tremendously after leaving the league. Gronkowski has done something similar, losing 10 pounds.
