Ex-Partick Thistle star is one of 'several' trialists at Albion Rovers, says boss

Former Partick Thistle and Hamilton Accies midfielder Charlie Reilly is training with Albion Rovers while boss Brian Reid runs the rule over 'several' trialists.

The 19-year-old was released by the Firhill club at the end of May as they prepare to step up to the Championship, having signed for them in October.

Reid confirmed that he's looking at Reilly, but says there are others who are in the same bracket.

He said: "I'm certainly looking at Charlie, he's been in training with us for the last wee bit.

"Everybody we bring in we're interested in looking at, to see if they're going to be what we're needing, what we can afford, and everything else - and he is one of them.

"Charlie is still a young boy, I think he's only 19, so he's got plenty of time on his side in that way.

Rovers boss Brian Reid says he's looking at several trialists but is interested in Reilly (Ben Kearney)

"We thought quite highly of him when he was at Hamilton and Partick, he's certainly a young player with potential, so we just need to see how he fits into our group and take it from there.

"It happens every pre-season, in terms of that, and there are a few other young ones we've got in as well. That's what you bring them in to pre-season for."

Reid added: "We definitely need a few more players in, we are a bit short, but we've got the advantage that our reserve squad can boost us up a wee bit.

"But they've obviously got to prove themselves that they're good enough to be coming into the first-team environment.

"That's the same with any trialists we have, and it's still early stages for that.

"We'll look at a few people and then we'll make our mind up in terms of where we're going to go on that."
