Tim Flannery, who went to the World Series twice with the Padres, has been hospitalized in San Diego for more than a week with a staph infection. But Flannery, 63, has "responded well" to treatment, his family said in a statement posted Tuesday.

Flannery went to the 1984 World Series as a Padres infielder and returned in 1998 as the third-base coach. He collected three World Series rings with the San Francisco Giants, who won the title in 2010, 2012 and 2014 with Flannery as third-base coach and his former Padres teammate Bruce Bochy as manager.

Flannery was drafted by the Padres in 1978 out of Chapman University in Orange. He played for the Padres from 1979-89, appearing in 972 games. He also worked as a Padres broadcaster from 2004-06 before joining Bochy with the Giants. An accomplished musician, he has released at least a dozen albums.

His Facebook page is providing updates.
