Ex-Oasis singer Liam Gallagher sends 'love and light' to Liverpool band after two teens stabbed

Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has sent his support to a Liverpool band after a horrific city stabbing which has left two teenagers hurt, one of them critically ill.

The Mancunian issued "love and light" to "Tom and Lewis" from The Kairos, who hail from Formby.

Gallagher's message of positivity came 15 hours after the serious knifing in the middle of the city centre, on Church Street, at 4am today.

The singer told his 3.2m followers on Twitter: "Sending love n light to Tom and Lewis from The Kairos thinking of you both, LG x."

The four-piece are made up of Tom Dempsey on lead guitar and vocals, Lewis Chambers on guitar, Owen Forrester on bass and Sam Bradley on drums and backing vocals.

The stabbing took place close to River Island on Church Street in the early hours of Sunday morning. One 19-year-old is critically hurt, while another man, also 19, suffered a minor knife wound to his face, and was later discharged from hospital.

A Twitter user who appeared to be a member of the Dempsey family replied to Gallagher's message, saying: "All the love to LG," followed by a red heart.

Another tweeted: "Two of my mates from Formby stabbed in town last night. One in critical condition. Boss from Liam this."

The Kairos are an emerging talent on the Merseyside music scene, and played a prominent gig just over a week ago at the Invisible Wind Factory venue.

Local music website Getintothis reviewed that concert, and said of them: "...it's easy for first time listeners to hear why they are so popular in this city.

"It’s likeable, well, lovable rock and roll and Nostalgia is their best tune tonight."

The Kairos have played at many well-known city centre venues including Heebie Jeebies, The Zanzibar, The Arts Club, 02 Academy and Jimmy’s.

Detectives have recovered a small knife close to the scene, near to River Island, and cordoned off a large area of Church Street for most of the day.

Officers made an arrest of a 20-year-old man, from Kirkdale, on suspicion of two counts of Section 18 assault, possession of a bladed article and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (MDMA).

He was initially taken to hospital as he suffered a medical episode, but he has since been discharged, and was being quizzed at a police station this evening.

Police described the incident as "horrific."

Officers also have asked people who may have any relevant camera phone footage to contact them to help with the investigation.

Reports first came into police that a group of men were fighting near the River Island store at about 4am.

Spots of blood on the pavement could be seen.

Detective Inspector Sabi Kaur said: “During CCTV enquiries and forensic examination of the scene, we have made significant progress with this investigation, and are in the process of questioning a man on suspicion of involvement.

“But we are appealing to any members of the public who may have seen or even captured on camera any part of this incident to contact police.

"You may have information or evidence that could prove a vital part of our efforts to piece together what happened and who is responsible, and help us bring the perpetrator or perpetrators of this horrific assault to justice.”

Anyone with any camera phone footage or information should contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook "Merseyside Police Contact Centre."
