Ex-NRLW star fined over pub assault

Women's rugby league star Nita Maynard has been fined nearly $3000 for assaulting two security guards after refusing to leave a Sydney pub.

The former NSW State of Origin representative pleaded guilty to failing to leave the premises when required, and for two charges of common assault.

She was ordered to pay $600, $750, and $1500 respectively.

The 28-year-old hooker was asked to leave Cronulla's Northies hotel in April but became aggressive and had to be restrained after assaulting the guards.

It is believed she is the first player from the NRLW premiership to face a charge over an off-field incident since the competition launched in 2018.

The New Zealand international now plays for the North Sydney Bears in the NSW women's state league and does not fall under the NRL's employment.

The NSWRL previously said they were monitoring how the Bears handle the situation and would review the matter.

Maynard helped the Roosters reach the 2020 NRLW grand final and represented NSW at State of Origin level in 2018.
