Ex-Notts County star Steve Finnan selling iconic Champions League winner's medal

Former Notts County favourite Steve Finnan has put his Champions League winner's medal up for auction as well as other items of memorabilia from Liverpool's Istanbul triumph.

The Irishman was a key part of Rafa Benitez's side that defied all the odds to lift the European Cup in 2005 when they fought back from 3-0 down against  AC Milan to win the trophy on penalites.

But the Liverpool Echo now say his iconic medal from that famous night is up for grabs which is expected to fetch  at least £12,000 on Graham Budd auctions.

And among the other items that are also listed is a one-off Frank Muller Conquistador watch that was presented to him after the famous victory.

It is expected to fetch at least £15,000 while a mini replica of the European Cup that was also given to him could fetch between £5,000 to £7,000.

Finnan played the first half of the game at the Ataturk Stadium but was substituted at half-time for Dietmar Hamann as Benitez engineered one of the most miraculous fightback in the history of European Cup finals.

Finnan made 217 appearances for Liverpool between 2003 and 2008, but retired from playing when his contract expired at Portsmouth back in the summer of 2010.

Notts paid £300,000 to sign the winger, who later became a full-back, from Birmingham City in 1996 and stayed at the club for two years winning the Division Three title in 1997-98 under then boss Sam Allardyce.

Fulham then paid £600,000 for his signature before he moved to Liverpool for £3.5m.
