Ex-Notts County loanee Ryan Schofield suffers England woe

Former Notts County loanee Ryan Schofield experienced huge disappointment with England under-20s in the Toulon Tournament.

The Huddersfield goalkeeper, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Meadow Lane, had to be replaced at half-time as the Three Lions lost 3-2 against Portugal.

All three goals came in the first half and that was enough for manager Paul Simpson to replace the 19-year-old, who signed for the Magpies back in January, at half-time.

England had taken the lead through Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah, but Marcos Paulo equalised on 21 minutes.

But close to half-time,  Portugal struck twice in three minutes, firstly through Goncalo Cardoso and then through Felix Correia.

Cardoso met a cross ahead of Schofield to put them in front while Correia struck a volley past the goalkeeper.

Schofield was then replaced by Brentford's Ellery Balcombe as England attempted to produce a comeback.

Arsenal's Joe Willock scored three minutes from the end, but England could not find an equaliser.

It means the Young Lions will be heading home on Friday once they play their last group game against Chile.
