Ex-Notts County boss John Sheridan wants former Magpie Haydn Hollis to join him permanently at Chesterfield

Haydn Hollis could be set to face Notts County with their derby rivals Chesterfield next season after ex-Magpies boss John Sheridan offered him a contract.

The defender was released by Forest Green Rovers in the aftermath of their play-off semi-final defeat to Tranmere having spent the season on loan at the Pro-Act.

And now he is a free agent, Sheridan, who was sacked by Notts in January 2017, wants to take him on  a permanent deal having been impressed by his contribution.

Notts County joint favourites to win the National League next season

Sheridan feels there are aspects of Hollis which can improve, but talking to the Derbyshire Times, he said he would not wait around for a decision.

“I’ve offered him a contract. He’s a player I know, he’s left footed which is a big plus,” said Sheridan.

“I like him as a lad, he’s a good trainer. Lots of things to work on with him but I thought he did well.

“He’s someone I want to keep, I’ve made him an offer but I can’t wait all summer. I’m not someone who dwells on things.

"There’s going to be hundreds of players. If I’m a player and I’m thinking someone wants me, I wouldn’t wait too long because there’ll be so many out there who think they’re going to get clubs and won’t get clubs and it’ll be last minute.

“Hopefully something will get sorted out, if not we move on.”

Ex-Notts County defender Haydn Hollis to spark fight for signature?

Hollis made more than 110 appearances for Notts having graduated from the club’s academy but left to sign for Forest Green in January last year.

Should he sign permanently for Chesterfield he will come face to face with Notts next season in what is likely to be a spicy derby between the sides.

Both clubs are tipped as title contenders next season with SkyBet listing them as joint 7/1 favourites to win promotion back to the Football League.
