Ex-Nottingham Forest striker 'target' is 'keen to leave for first team football'

Matej Vydra has long been on the transfer wish-lists of Nottingham Forest supporters, with the club consistently linked with him in previous windows.

Vydra, so prolific at Championship level has struggled to make the grade in the Premier League, and could be set to leave Burnley this month.

Reports in Lancashire suggest the Czech Republic frontman is keen to secure a move away from Turf Moor before the transfer window closes on January 31.

In his three starts since arriving from Forest’s arch-rivals Derby for £11m 18 months ago, Vydra has managed just one Premier League goal, leading to speculation that a Championship return could be in the offing.

Forest, Leeds and West Brom are all desperate to add to their attacking ranks this month, and could see Vydra as a viable option, while Birmingham City have been linked with a move for him.

That said, his opportunities could soon be boosted after the Clarets revealed Ashley Barnes faces a spell out of action as he requires surgery on a hernia problem.

“Hopefully he will have a smooth recovery,” Sean Dyche said.

“You don’t like losing good players but, equally, it allows other players to come in and perform and that’s what we’ll be looking for them to do.”
