Ex-Nottingham Forest striker names shock choice for vacant manager's job

Nigel Jemson believes Sam Allardyce would be a "great person" to succeed Chris Hughton at Nottingham Forest.

The Reds are currently closing in on former Swansea boss Steve Cooper who left the Welsh side at the end of July after leading them to the Championship play-off final.

Betting has since been suspended on who will become Forest manager with Cooper having been priced at 1/20 before the market was closed.

However, former Reds striker Jemson has given his view on who he'd like to see fill Hughton's boots and feels former England and Everton boss Allardyce would be a good fit.

"You look at people like Sam Allardyce," he told footballfancast. "Tried and trusted."

“They’re usually there to get people out of turmoil. I know Sam personally very well, I played with him at Preston.

“He would be a great person to get in there because he would be a no-nonsense manager but, again, it’s whether he wants that job.”

Allardyce has not been in a job since leaving West Bromwich Albion having failed to keep them in the Premier League last season.

But he is understood to want a return to management and has been linked previously with the job at the City Ground before.

He is no stranger to the city having managed Notts County where he led them to the Division Three title in 1997-98 before moving onto Bolton.
