Ex-Nottingham Forest striker and pundit predicts Notts County promotion agony

Former Nottingham Forest striker Grant Holt has predicted play-off final heartbreak for Notts County at Wembley next weekend.

The former Reds ace was working as  a pundit for BT Sport and watched the Magpies secure their place at the national stadium with a 2-0 win over Barnet at Meadow Lane.

Goals from Kristian Dennis and Callum Roberts means Neal Ardley’s side will now face Harrogate Town next weekend as the Magpies  look to return to the Football League at the first attempt.

Despite Notts having beaten Simon Weaver’s side 2-0 early on in the season, Holt makes Town favourites after they overcame Boreham Wood in the other semi-final.

“Notts will have done their homework for it,” he said.

“They’ll have their plan ready.

“It will be a good game and I’m looking forward to it. Harrogate deserved their win.

“They dominated the game. Boreham Wood will be annoyed to lose to a set piece.

“As an ex-Barrow player, I was delighted they went up. I fancy Harrogate to go up with them.

“They’ve been fantastic this year. I like the way they play.

“They move the ball well and Wembley will suit them.

“Notts fans would be shouting at me (about the prediction) as I’m ex-Forest anyway.”
