Ex-Nottingham Forest star would be an 'asset' says former Reds boss

Nathan Tyson could be one of three former Notts County players to be handed permanent deals at rivals Chesterfield, after seeing his year-long stay at Meadow Lane come to an end.

Spireites boss John Pemberton is a keen admirer of Tyson with the pair working together briefly at Nottingham Forest, before the striker moved to north Derbyshire on loan from Notts in the second half of the season where he netted a 23-minute hat-trick against Ebbsfleet.

Tyson’s deal at Meadow Lane won’t be renewed when it expires at the end of this month, along with goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons and defender Matt Tootle, both of whom were at Chesterfield for truncated spells this term.

Pemberton believes any club that can complete a deal for the 38-year-old would see him as a worthwhile asset given his reputation.

“I would not be worried about bringing Tyson back - I think you have seen what he can do,” said the Spireites caretaker boss.

“I think anybody who is fortunate enough to get him will certainly have an asset.”

Speaking in April meanwhile, Pemberton admitted that he was in a tricky position when it came to planning for the new season in terms of the now departed Notts trio and giving them potential deals.

“I have spoken to the lads on loan just to tell them the situation that we are in,” Pemberton told the Derbyshire Times.

"With regards to Tootle, Tyson and Fitzsimons their contracts are up anyway with their club.

"I don't think they (Notts County) are going to renew them so they are going to end up free agents anyway so we are just monitoring that and seeing what that situation is.”

“I can't make any decisions, which is what I have said to the players, until we find out what the situation is with the club with regards of the takeover and what is going to happen with regards of myself and my staff moving forward.”
