Ex-Nottingham Forest man Ben Brereton linked with shock move abroad

Ben Brereton could be on his way from Blackburn Rovers little over a year after moving from Nottingham Forest.

The 20-year-old striker is said to be a target for Alan Pardew at Dutch Eredivisie strugglers ADO Den Haag, as the former Newcastle and West Ham boss looks to secure a host of British talent.

Since leaving Forest in a £7m deal in August 2018, Brereton has managed just one goal for Rovers and spent three months out earlier this season with a knee injury.

He returned to Tony Mowbray’s starting line-up and played at the City Ground on New Year’s Day, as Forest won a thriller 3-2, but was left out altogether at the weekend in favour of Harry Chapman which raised questions about his future amid reported interest from overseas.

It remains to be seen whether or not Blackburn would allow Brereton to leave given they’re short of options up front after leading scorer Bradley Dack suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury last month, which ruled him out for the season.

Boss Mowbray claimed there was no issue with Brereton being left out against Preston, suggesting it was purely tactical and not because of a possible move away from Ewood Park.

“No problems, it was just the individuality we were looking for," he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“We could have stuck him out there, left him, give him the ball and see what we can do.

“It was just the type of footballer.”
