Ex-Nottingham Forest loanee Ross McCormack has Aston Villa contract terminated

Ex-Nottingham Forest loanee Ross McCormack is a free agent again after his Aston Villa contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The ex-Leeds Untied striker who cost Villa £12million in 2016 still had twelve months remaining on his contract at Villa Park after initially putting pen-to-paper for a four-year deal.

Despite not featuring for the club for nearly two years, a clause in his contact meant that the Scotland international was set to see his wages rise next season with Dean Smith's side now promoted to the Premier League.

However, Telegraph Sport have reported that after lengthy negotiations with Villa executive Christian Purslow, the two parties have reached an agreement to terminate his contract, thus making him a free agent.

During his three seasons in the West Midlands, McCormack has featured just 24 times for his parent club and has had four loan spells away from Villa Park.

His lowest moment came when he was banished by Steve Bruce to train with the under-23s after he claimed that an electrical fault with the gates at his home was the reason he had missed training.

His short loan at the City Ground too proved unsuccessful, scoring just once in seven appearances and missing a penalty against Sheffield Wednesday.
