Ex-Nottingham Forest loan favourite could see Newcastle United contract terminated

Jack Colback could see his contract at Newcastle United terminated in January as Steve Bruce looks to free up funds to strengthen his squad.

The midfielder was left out of Bruce’s 25-man Premier League squad at the start of the campaign, despite featuring in pre-season after returning from a successful loan stint at Nottingham Forest where he came runner-up to Joe Lolley in last term’s Player of the Season vote.

Now, according to The Telegraph, Colback along with Henri Saivet, could see their deals ended prematurely in a bid to free up valuable space on wage bill at St James’ Park ahead of the transfer window opening.

Colback’s deal on Tyneside ends in the summer while Saivet’s contract runs until the summer of 2021.

“There is even a chance the club could terminate their contracts early in a private financial settlement to make some room, although this is a difficult route to go down,” it said.

It had been expected Colback would return to the City Ground and add to the 55 appearances he made across two spells by the Trent, where he made himself a firm fans favourite.

Following the arrival of Sabri Lamouchi in pre-season who signed midfielders John Bostock, Samba Sow and Alfa Semedo, the Reds opted against bringing the 28-year-old back to Nottingham.
