Ex-Nottingham Forest goalkeeper makes dream move to European club

Dimitar Evtimov has landed himself a plum move to the club he supported as a youngster.

The former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper, released by Accrington Stanley last month has agreed a deal at CSKA Sofia in his native Bulgaria.

Evtimov, who joined Forest in 2011 before making just two first team appearances, admits the switch has made him immensely proud.

“Extremely proud to have signed for the biggest Bulgarian football club,” he wrote on Twitter.

“I have been their fan since I was a kid and it’s an honour and privilege to represent CSKA SOFIA.”

Evtimov had been looking for a new club when his 18-month stay at  the Wham Stadium  came to an end when boss John Coleman was forced to make a host of a changes to his squad, after it was confirmed the League One season would not restart following the enforced break because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After leaving Forest in 2018, joined Nigel Clough at Burton Albion on a short-term deal and then moved to Stanley where he played 30 times, before injury hampered his hopes of playing regularly in the second half of the league campaign.

Former players including Ben Osborn wished the 26-year-old well, with the Sheffield United star offering his congratulations before saying ‘what a move’.
