Ex-Nottingham Forest boss turns down job, saying it came 'at the wrong time'

Former Nottingham Forest manager has opted against becoming the new boss at Scottish side Dundee United.

McClaren, who last worked in management at QPR in April last year, confirmed he had spoken with sporting director Tony Asghar about taking over at Tannadice, but said the position has come at the wrong time for him though he remains keen to get back into work.

“Tony Asghar and I had a great meeting regarding the manager's job at Dundee United,” the 59-year-old told Sky Sports.

"I'm very impressed with the club's structure, philosophy and ambition,” he said of the Terrors who will be back in the Scottish Premiership next season after winning promotion under Robbie Neilson.

"I have a great desire to be managing and coaching again and it is disappointing that this chance comes at the wrong time for me.

"I wish Tony and the board the best of luck in bringing the club and its fans the success they deserve."

United, meanwhile, retain an interest in ex-Forest goalkeeper Tommy Wright, with Asghar confirming Wright is on the list to be considered.

"I've not spoken to Tommy but he's on the list to consider," said Asghar.

"We've spoken to people - some in jobs, some not - and we've still got more to speak to.

"Some are still involved in games just now, so we have to be respectful of that, but we'll get through everyone, then take an overview."
