Ex-Nottingham Forest boss Philippe Montanier preparing for play-off promotion in France

Ex-Nottingham Forest chief Philippe Montanier is preparing himself for a crucial play-off quarter final on Tuesday night.

Now in charge of French Ligue 2 side Racing Club de Lens, Montanier's side are three wins away from a season back with big boys PSG, Lyon and Marseille in France's top tier.

Lens, who were UEFA Cup semi-finalists as recently as 2000, were relegated from the top flight in 2015 and have since failed to return to the top flight.

Evangelos Marinakis shares his vision of the future at Nottingham Forest with Martin O'Neill during Greece meeting

But Montanier is confident that his side will get the job done this year.

"The play-offs is special; it's exciting," he told the club's website.

"We have pressure, but a positive pressure. We have nothing to lose.

"We are lucky to have Mickaël Debève (assistant manager) in the staff. His experience of these games with Toulouse will be precious to us.

"Physically, we have the group almost completely fit, which is a good thing.

"We will be well supported by our fans. It's going to be a party.

"The unity of the team, the generosity and the involvement, it was all really remarkable against Orleans."

Montanier, who only oversaw 30 games at the City Ground, took over at Lens exactly one year ago on Wednesday, following a brief spell as France's Under-20s boss.

Ending the season with three victories on the bounce, the former goalkeeper's side managed to leapfrog Lorient with just a game to go to snatch the final play-off spot.

Why VAR won’t be used in Championship play-off final

In France, the side who finished third, top of the play-off pack, are given a bye to the semi-finals, while fourth and fifth compete to join then.

The winner of the semi-final will then play Caen, who finished 18th in Ligue 1, narrowly avoiding automatic relegation to the second division.
